1. Balance And Composure - The Things We Think We’re Missing
~ This album is PERFECTION. My only complaint is Will Yip’s terrible production quality, which typically makes an album sound like it was recorded in a bathtub filled with mud but somehow this band shines through. The thing that kept B&C’s Separation off my top 10 years ago was how all over the place it was, but this album is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard as far as flow is concerned.
2. Moving Mountains - Moving Mountains
~ I have always loved everything MovMou put out but MAN this album blew me away. It’s a perfect fall album and it’s just beautiful.
3. Conditions - Full Of War
~ This album was so close to being my number 2, I enjoyed it so much more than Fluorescent Youth which was also a really great album. I’m SO sad these guys are breaking up, but they couldn’t have gone out in a better way. This album flows really well and the lyrics are phenomenal.
4. Daughter - If You Leave
~ Holy crap. This album. It’s so sad and so beautiful all at the same time. It’s the PERFECT winter album if you’re looking for one. I’ve loved Daughter ever since her first EP and was not expecting this album to be so great but I was so wrong.
5. City And Colour - The Hurry And The Harm
~ This albums suffers just a bit from being maybe a song or two too long. Other than that this is a great release from Dallas Green. Saw him play a lot of stuff from this album this year and it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen in my life! It’s just as good as Little Hell but doesn’t quite reach Bring Me Your Love status.
6. Lydia - Devil
~ This one came out of NOWHERE. I’ve always been as casual Lydia fan but all of their releases seemed to suffer from having some great songs, and some not so great songs. This album is perfect from beginning to end and is so much fun to sing along with.
7. Touche Amore - Is Survived By
~ The ONLY heavy album to make my Top 10 this year. I don’t know if I’m growing out of heavy music, or if heavy music is just starting to suck, but this album definitely does not suck. This album seems a lot deeper and a lot more personal than previous Touche releases and they are really pushing the boundaries for what post-hardcore can be.
8. The National - Trouble Will Find Me
~ I REALLY didn’t think it was possible to top High Violet, and maybe this one doesn’t, but it is JUST AS GOOD. You can tell the vocalist has been through some shit recently, and this is a very personal album. The flow could be a little better here, and it seems to run a little long, but honestly there is nothing I would remove. I Need My Girl is probably one of the best songs released this year.
9. Koji - Crooked In My Mind
~ I was worried about this one when I heard the first single. The thing that I always loved about Koji was that it was just him and a guitar, so I was nervous when he announced he was going full band. The first single made me nervous, and honestly it’s still my least favorite song on the album but in context it’s a great song. This album flows beautifully and has tremendous pacing. There are some songs on here that I LOVE.
10. Citizen - Youth
~ I get why fans of Citizen’s older stuff don’t dig this album, but I love it. The choruses are catchy as hell and it has great flow. AGAIN, this album would be 100x better without Will Yip’s terrible stuck-in-the-90’s production, but I still think it’s great.
There were a couple of albums that I loved that didn’t quite make the cut. The new Appleseed Cast, The World Is A Beautiful Place And I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, HRVRD, and Deafheaven records were all amazing, so you should check those out too!
